LAHORE, June 9: The feature event seems to be an open affair when the sixth Day/Night Lahore Summer Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday.

In all, nine contestants are to line up for the Peshawar Plate, class IV Division II and III to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1100m

From the lot a filly, Noor, and two geldings, Great Murad and Royal Gambler come into reckoning on classification and their recent form and the assigned handicap.

Bay filly, Noor, ran third behind Zanjeer and Nosheen in the Hyderabad Plate class IV division I and II ran over 1000m.

It is interesting to note that Zanjeer and Nosheen are among the best, if not the best, over the sprinting distance of 1000m. That makes Noor, top contender on classification.

Chestnut gelding, Great Murad, fresh from his last week's victory and the form he is in at present can click again to make it two in a row. Another gelding, Royal Gambler has come down considerably in the weight scales at seven stones and eight pounds and can prove great threat to both. That makes the feature event an open affair.

A small card of five events has been drawn up with a total of 44 runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.

Chestnut colt, Gorcee The Great, who ran second behind Eid on Wednesday last is being fancied to win the supporting and fourth race to be contested over 900m. The Kaghan Plate, class V division I and II, has only eight runners. The gelding, Cross Ruff and the mare Julia Robert, who is carrying a top weight of 9-2, can put up a good fight to make Gorcee The Great's task difficult.

Bay filly, Ferrari, who has consistently appeared on the board in her six previous outings but without success should at last win the top honours defeating her seven rivals in the third race.

Though the distance looks short for her, but her rivals too are low profile runners and have not yet shown any performing worth taking in to account. Remember You, Hamza Prince and Charming King are the next best on their previous form.

Bay gelding Sher-e-Lahore, who performed disappointingly to finish fifth in a class seven division one event over 900m on May 23 last will be all out to salvage his stable prestige and win the second race.

He is pitched against a few form animals including Shah Pari and Major Rana in a field of ten runners, the day's biggest, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

Mannan Prince, Dashing Paradise and Dogar Gift are the top performers to claim the opener. If past performance, is any yardstick to assess their running capabilities, the trio should fight it out. Houstan and Araaf, are the too animals, who have come down to the last division of class seven but so far have not appeared on the board even.

The first two races will be held over 800m, the 3rd and 4th over 900m and the fifth and last over 1100m. The first race will be held at 6pm.
