Two arrested for killing five

GUJRANWALA, June 9: The police on Saturday registered a case against 18 people in the wake of the murder of five people on Ferozewala Road.

Nandipur Town SP Muhammad Afzal Butt told Dawn on Saturday that two of the suspects, identified as Jaffar Shah and Hamsafar, had been arrested. Teams were raiding various places for the arrest of the other accused.

He said the deceased and assailants were proclaimed offenders and wanted in many cases of heinous crime.

It is learnt that the three victims were on their way to Wahando to offer fateha for one of their associates by a car they had lifted from Batala Chowk, Faisalabad. Their rivals on two vehicles sprayed the car with bullets, killing the three occupants. Many passersby came in the line of fire and two of them expired.

The case was instituted against Ashraf, Sanaullah, Zakaullah, Khurram Shahzad, Iqbal, Ataullah, Adil Mukhtar, Anwar, Arshad, Dilawar, Hamsafar and others.
