Crackdown on illegal oil agencies

By Our Correspondent

MUZAFFARGARH, June 7: The police started an operation against illegal oil agencies in Chowk Qureshi and Qasba Gujrat on Thursday. Hundred of policemen are taking part in the crackdown on people illegally running oil agencies and selling adulterated oil in connivance with oil tanker drivers. As many as 225 illegal oil agencies are working in these areas.

Sadr Deputy Superintendent of Police Mehr Javed said the police had seized adulterated oil and oil storage tanks of 30 agencies, while many fled after seeing the police. He said that criminal cases would be registered against the owners of these agencies.

These oil agencies don’t have equipment to extinguish fire. Last year, five people were burnt to death in Gujrat when an oil tanker parked outside an oil agency caught fire.

KILLED: A 10-year-old girl was killed and four others injured when the wall of a mosque collapsed in Khangarh on Thursday.
