KARACHI, July 7: The accountability court II on Thursday rejected the bail application of a former photographer of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and framed charges against him.

The court of judge Nuzhat Ara Alvi also summoned the witness in the case on the next hearing. According to the court, the accused is facing the charges of Rs8.8 million embezzlement in the bills of photography of various official programmes.

The same court also adjourned the case of an absconding accused, former chief cashier of the Askari Commercial Bank, Muzzamil Hussain Jaffery, till June 9.

Former deputy director of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Haider Ali Khokhar’s bail application was also rejected on the grounds that all the witnesses were already examined and the case was in its final stages. The hearing was put off for recording the accused’s statement.

In another case, the court heard the applications filed by the Karachi Charitable Trust and Jamil Lodhi for separation of their property from the case of Ex-SP Chaudhry Nazar.

According to the applicants, one of the properties was purchased by Jamil Lodhi from the accused while the other was gifted by him to the trust.

Special prosecutor for the NAB Mohammad Altaf Khan told the court that the property was acquired through illegal means and was part of the case. He opposed the applications, which were later withdrawn by the applicants.
