Eid brings joy for supporters at LRC

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, June 6: Fancied bay mare Eid won the feature event of day/night Lahore Gymkhana midweek races at the Racecourse on Wednesday. The 60 to 100 favourite mare, owned by Lahore Race Club (LRC) steward Malik Hamid Ali Noon, beat long shot chestnut colt Gorcee The Great by over two lengths.

Hallow Dancer and Cross Ruff completed the frame among seven runners.

The victory of Eid gave trainer Haji Fazal Hadi a well deserved double when earlier in the fourth race he sent out half-money favourite Safe And Sound.

Giving a fine display of front-running, Safe And Sound defeated Murad The Great by over five lengths easily.

Princess Afaq and Gold Bird completed the board among seven runners after last-minute withdrawal of Dazzy Against All.

Another half-money favourite, Tyson, foiled a strong challenge from Shah Pari in dying strides to emerge victorious in the third race by a head's margin.

Tyson's early lead paid off well for a close win.

Chestnut filly Gold Round sprinted home to earn her career's first win defeating Tosca by over five lengths.

Royal Palace finished third with favourite Chinkara hardly hitting the board.

Four favourites – Gold Round, Tyson, Safe And Sound and Eid – obliged punters in a card of five races. They won in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and fifth race respectively.

The first event was bagged by a three to one chance Queen Of Gold to give turf accountants a token respite.

All the races were contested over 900 metres.
