GUJRANWALA, June 5: A former superintendent of Silakot Jail, who remained confined to the city central jail for more than three years in the judges killing case, was inducted as superintendent here on Tuesday.

Chaudhry Sikandar Hayat was jail superintendent in Sialkot when four judges were killed and three others suffered injuries during a clash between prisoners and police on July 23, 2003. The prosecution had held him responsible and he was arrested, besides other jail officials.

Mr Hayat was detained at Gujranwala central jail when the local anti-terrorism court was hearing the case. Later, he was acquitted by the court along with other co-accused. Gujranwala jail superintendent Mian Shaukat Ali retired from service on Monday.

The Punjab government has appointed Sikandar Hayat as jail superintendent in Gujranwala and he would assume charge on Thursday (tomorrow).

DOUBLE SHAH: The anti-terrorism court No 2 told Wazirabad Sadar police to submit a charge sheet against Sibtul Hassan Shah alias Double Shah today (Wednesday) and produce him at next hearing.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) did not produce Shah in the court on Tuesday, while police asked the court to extend the date for submission of the charge sheet.
