Work on canals remains incomplete


CHITRAL, June 5: The Chitral irrigation department has paid millions of rupees to contractors for lining and rehabilitation of 10 channels in the district, but work on none of them has been completed yet, according to sources.

The ten channels include Attani, Kaldam, Kalkatak, Zait, Bakrabad, Green Lusht, Mori, Loane, Mori Lusht and Ghochar Koh canals.

The sources said that for lining of the channels, contractors had been paid Rs17.349 million from the allocated amount of Rs20 million. But in most cases, even half of the work has not been completed.

For the work on Attani, Kalkatak, Ghochar Koh and Kaldam channels, full payment has been made to contractors. For rehabilitation of channels damaged by floods, Rs5.4885 million has been paid to contractors from the allocated amount of Rs5.642 million.—Correspondent
