QUETTA, June 5: Four mine workers were killed and six others sustained injuries on Tuesday when an explosion was occurred in a coalmine in the Sinjdi coalmine field, some 50 km east from here.
According to sources, 10 people were working in a coalmine of the United Coal Company during which a powerful explosion took place deep inside the mine. Fire was broke out inside the mine while a portion of the mine caved in due to the powerful explosion, they added.
After the explosion other mine workers and rescue teams rushed to the site and started rescue operation.
They said that the rescue team had recovered four bodies and rescued six workers who had received burn injuries.
A senior official of the chief inspector of mines department said that all the four workers were burned to death, adding that injured were shifted to a private hospital. The condition of two injured was stated serious.
The sources said accumulation of methane gas had caused explosion in the coalmine.
Chief inspector of mines has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Victims of the incident were identified as Asmatullah, Rehmatullah, Ajab Gul and Ahmed. The injured included Shahrawan, Mohammad Amin, Ajmal Khan, Tahir, Nimroz and Saif-ur-Rehman.
