DARRA ADAMKHEL, June 4: Militants have banned the movement of tribesmen in Darra Adamkhel after 10pm and announced that any vehicle not stopping for ‘checking’ would be fired at.
Posters and handbills purportedly distributed by the Islami Taliban in the town cautioned tribesmen to avoid ‘unnecessary movement’ after 10pm. The handbills warned that if a driver did not stop for checking by the Taliban during the night, they had the right to shoot him.
They warned that if any ‘mujahid’ was harmed between Akhurwal and Bostikhel areas or anyone was found monitoring activities of the Taliban in the area, it would be considered an ‘unpardonable crime’.
“If a person is found creating hindrance for a Talib, he will not be pardoned,” said a poster.
The militants have enhanced their activities in the town considered to be the largest weapons manufacturing market in the region.
Armed volunteers with their faces covered have been patrolling the area during nights and checking vehicles for the past week. The Taliban have told local people to remove ring tones of film songs from their cellphones and personal computers and replace them with Quranic verses and jihadi songs.
The handbills said that Taliban would launch an armed campaign from July 1 against ‘indecency’ and those involved in ‘un-Islamic activities’, including music centres, prize bond dealers, usurers, narcotics dealers, car lifters and barbers who trim beards. A poster pasted on a wall said Taliban would provide alternative self-employment opportunities to those affected by the campaign.
The militants have announced the names of seven people allegedly involved in car snatching, drugs peddling and other ‘un-Islamic’ activities — Amir Syed, Gul Dar, Shah Zaman, Syed Kamal, Khuga Jan, Amir Khan and Yousaf.
