KARACHI: NWP backs judiciary

Published June 5, 2007

KARACHI, June 4: The National Workers Party’s central leader, Yusuf Mustikhan, has said no institution is superior to the judiciary and all efforts should be made to strengthen it.

In a statement issued on Monday, he condemned the ‘attacks on judiciary’ saying that the judiciary is custodian of fundamental rights of people and it deserved high respect while a security establishment in any civilised society was duty bound to protect the life and property of people and defend borders.

He said it was not the job of armed forces to impose its will on the political affairs of the country.

He also condemned the restrictions on media, which according to him seemed as part of the overall strategy of the ruling class to restrain coverage of the ongoing struggle for independence of judiciary.
