KARACHI, June 3: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal members of the Sindh Assembly Nasrullah Shajih Hameedullah Khan and Yunus Barai have expressed concern over the increase in the KESC tariffs and condemned it.

In a statement they said that the raise in power rates without any notice was a great injustice to the people of Karachi, who were already being charged more than the people of other cities. They said the increase in the KESC’s rates was proof of its incompetence and of its being anti-people.

Condemning the current load-shedding situation, they said the people of Karachi, with the advent of summer, were braving breakdowns of 8 to 12 hours, making life miserable.

Along with facing poverty, unemployment and sky-rocketing prices, the increase in power tariffs was tantamount to rubbing salt in the people’s wounds, they said.

The assembly members demanded the withdrawal of the tariff increase and asked the KESC to take steps to overcome the unannounced load-shedding. —Staff Reporter
