Pierce targets Beijing Games

PARIS, June 2: Double Grand Slam title winner Mary Pierce wants to put her injury nightmares behind her and take part in the Beijing Olympics next year before she retires. The 32-year-old Frenchwoman hasn’t played since Oct 2006 when she suffered a serious left knee injury, a setback which followed foot and ankle problems earlier in the season.

But Pierce said she fully expects to return to the tour and qualify for the 2008 Olympics. “My goal is to take part in another Olympics before I retire. That would be great,” she said.—AFP
