KARACHI, June 2: Judge Syed Saghir Hussain Zaidi of the Anti-terrorism Court No 3 acquitted on Saturday an accused in a kidnapping-for-ransom case for lack of sufficient evidence.

Shakeel Ahmed was prosecuted for kidnapping a six-year-old boy, Shavez, for ransom on Oct 12, 2006 in the Sukkun police limits.

The victim’s father Iftikhar Ahmed, a construction contractor, lodged the FIR against one of his former employees. He alleged that the accused kidnapped his son and demanded Rs25,000 for his release. The complainant said he had recognized the voice of Shakeel when he called him to demand the ransom.
