QUETTA, June 1: The Balochistan government has directed police and law-enforcement agencies to take tough measures against saboteurs involved in terrorist activities and prepare a security plan for Quetta to protect life and property of the people who are facing grenade attacks and bomb blasts.

A high-level meeting held here on Friday under Chief Minister Jam Yousuf took serious notice of the fresh wave of bomb blasts, blowing up of railways tracks and grenade attacks in Quetta and other parts of the province.

Chief Secretary K.B. Rind, Home Secretary Tariq Ayub, Inspector-General of Frontier Corps Maj-Gen Saleem Nawaz, Inspector-General of Police Tariq Masood Khosa, Director-General of Levies Force Hamayun Khan Jogezai and Quetta City Nazim Maqbool Lehri attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that the authorities had found evidence of foreign involvement in subversive activities in the province. “Foreign elements are receiving help and cooperation from some local people in carrying out bomb and grenade attacks and other such activities," the meeting observed.

Close coordination was stressed between law-enforcement agencies and other institutions concerned and they were directed to exchange information regarding terrorists, saboteurs, criminals to work out a joint plan.

The meeting called for strengthening the intelligence network and directed that law-enforcement agencies to hold regular meetings.

IGFC Maj-Gen Saleem Nawaz offered help and support to police in maintaining law and order and in their action against terrorists.

Expressing displeasure over the recent wave of subversive activities, the chief minister said that police and other institutions concerned should move jointly against the elements involved in such acts and take all possible steps to arrest them.

"Police and other law-enforcement agencies should fulfil their responsibilities by utilising all available resources," the chief minister said.

He said that establishing the government's writ, restoring peace and order and protecting life and property of the people was the top priority of the government.

Briefing the meeting, Chief Secretary K. B Rind said that 23 out of 29 districts had been converted into the ‘A’ area category from the ‘B’ and the government was providing all resources, including modern weapons and equipment, to police to improve its performance.

IGP Tariq Masood said that over the past two months terrorist and subversive activities had declined up to some extent.
