CHITRAL, May 31: The Chitral Fund for Sustainable Development has completed three development projects in the area during the past one year. The project’s last instalment cheques were handed over to community members at a ceremony held here on Wednesday.

The projects included the construction of check-dams in Mori Payeen village, wells in Drosh town and a children’s park in Dolomutz Town.

District Nazim Maghfirat Shah distributed the cheques.

Project Manager Chitral Conservation Strategy Aziz Ali said that the fund had been established for conservation-related projects in the district. He said the initial funds totalling one million rupees for the projects were provided by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

The district government contributed twice the SDC amount, Mr Aziz said, adding that the fund was aimed at initiating environmental projects on the basis of community participation. He said the community’s contribution to the success of the projects was more than 30 per cent.

He said the community undertook the projects with zeal and fervour, adding that the organisation’s experiment had been met with great success.
