RAWALPINDI, May 30: The district council here on Wednesday condemned the Karachi killings of May 12 and offered fateha for the victims. It also condemned the rulers for holding a public rally in the federal capital the same day when innocent people were being gunned down in the port city.
The session was chaired by naib district nazim Afzal Khokhar while the city nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas did not attend the meeting.
Since majority of the ruling party representatives did not attend the session, the house was dominated by the opposition members who shouted anti-government and anti-MQM slogans.
Speaking on the occasion, opposition leader in the house Mian Imran Hayat said there was no difference in the brutalities committed by Halaku Khan and the present rulers as both were celebrating destruction and bloodbath.
“The shocking point is that a ruling political party is strengthening the hands of a dictator and tries its best to legitimise the cruel and unconstitutional moves of the rulers.”
The opposition leader was joined by others including women councillors who suggested that a decisive anti-government movement should be launched on the Karachi killings. They also demanded that the MQM should immediately quit the Sindh government.
