PESHAWAR, May 30: The imposition of entry fee for visitors to the Peshawar International Airport was challenged before the Peshawar High Court on Wednesday. Advocate Abdul Samad Marwat filed a writ petition praying the court to set aside a notification issued by the airport manager through which an entry fee of Rs20 per person had been imposed.

The respondents in the petition are: the federation through the defence secretary, the airport manager, the Civil Aviation Authority regional director and the force commander of the Airport Security Force.

The entry fee was imposed after a bomb explosion at the airport on April 28.

The petitioner stated that under the notification issued on May 19, a contract had been awarded to a firm for three months.

The contractor had been receiving the fee since May 22.

He contended that the imposition of the fee was in violation of the rights of citizens, illegal and unconstitutional.
