PESHAWAR: Reward for fine collectors under consideration
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR, May 30: The NWFP government is considering a reward package for officials collecting fines against various offences relating to vehicle number plates in a bid to increase tax collection in the next fiscal year.
The NWFP excise and taxation department (E&TD) has moved a summary to Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, seeking approval of the package at different proportions for tax collecting officials, an official told Dawn.
The government, he said, had imposed penalties on various offences like misuse of authorised vehicle number plates, particularly the personalised ones. The tax department had collected millions as fine in the current financial year.
The excise and taxation department has argued that incentives will not only motivate tax officials to work efficiently but will also improve the overall collection. It will also help in reducing the misuse of number plates.
However, the provincial finance department had expressed its reservations over the reward, saying that it might create legal implications, the official said.
