NAWABSHAH: Officials, teachers blamed for closed schools

NAWABSHAH, May 30: The district council in its session on Wednesday held negligence by the education department, teachers and their union responsible for about 738 non-functional schools in the district.

The council’s session was presided over by convener Abdul Haq Jamali.

Members including Islam Khan Zardari, Syed Iftikhar Ali Shah, Ghulam Mustafa Soomro, Abdul Rasool Brohi, Sakina Channa, Jam Feroze Unnar and Mohammed Hanif Chandio said that educational system in the district had collapsed due to negligence of teachers, officials of education department, teachers union and local politicians.

More than 130,000 children were deprived of their basic right to education due to closure of schools, they said and demanded that the irresponsible teachers and officials should be made accountable for their negligence.

The EDO of education Syed Akbar Shah said in his briefing to the council that the department was making efforts to reopen 738 schools and sought the help of elected representatives, politicians and officers in this connection.

Jam Feroze Unnar, nazim of union council Qazi Ahmed tabled a resolution demanding declaration of Qazi Ahmed as taluka. The town was the third largest business hub of the district generating more revenue and having more ginning factories and sugar mills, he added.

The council unanimously passed the resolution and demanded that the Sindh government should declare Qazi Ahmed as taluka of Nawabshah district. The council also approved several schemes for the construction of roads, dispensaries and new schools.

APC: Speakers at an All-Party Conference have held the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and President Musharraf responsible for May 12 killing in Karachi and demanded ban on the party.

The leaders of different political parties were unanimous in their demand at the APC convened by Jamaat-i-Islami at its office on Tuesday that the governor of Sindh and advisor to chief minister on home affairs should be removed and a MQM should be banned.

JI Ameer Suroor Ahmed Qureshi, JUI leader Nazimuddin Burdi, PML-N leader Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Qazi Nadeem of Tehrik-i-Insaf and others spoke at the conference.
