KARACHI: SHC reserves verdict on appeal of kidnappers


KARACHI, May 30: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment on an appeal challenging life imprisonment given to the appellants/accused in a kidnapping for ransom case by a trial court.

Appellants/convict Muhammad Zahid, Urooj and Faisal were handed down life imprisonment and other punishments by the anti- terrorism court (ATC-II) on March 9, 2002.

The appellants were convicted of kidnapping a three-year-old girl, Rimsha, in the limits of the Shareefabad police station for ransom on November 13, 2001. The cases against the appellants were lodged by the father of the victim, Abdul Hameed, with the Shareefabad police station.

The division bench comprising Justices Mohammad Afzal Soomro and Rehmat Hussain Jaffery after hearing the arguments reserved the judgment.—APP
