European stocks slip

LONDON, May 30: European stock exchanges retreated on Wednesday in the aftermath of sharp falls on the Shanghai market but losses were limited by a muted opening on Wall Street.

In closing deals the London FTSE 100 index lost 0.07 per cent to close at 6,602.10 points, while in Paris the CAC 40 gave up 0.24 per cent to 6,042.15 points, while in Frankfurt the Dax lost 0.21 per cent to close at 7,764.97 points.

The Euro Stoxx 50 lost 0.13 per cent to end at 4,468.77.

US stocks swung lower in early trade Wednesday morning in a muted reaction to the plunge in Shanghai shares that evoked memories of global market rout in late February.—AFP
