BANNU, May 29: Relatives of four people killed here by police on Monday have said that the four were neither Taliban nor miscreants and that they were gunned down in a fake police encounter.

They said that the deceased who belonged to a local reformatory committee had been arrested by police.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Noor Hayat Khan, brother of one of the deceased, Amir Hayat, asked the government and the superior judiciary to order a judicial inquiry into the killings

Mr Hayat said that the four did not belong to the local Taliban organisation and police had provided false information to the media.

He asked the government to order registration of an FIR against local police who had killed innocent people.

Accompanied by relatives of the other three deceased and leaders of ANP, PML (N) and other political parties, Noor Hayat said that after an exchange of fire with police the four had surrendered. He alleged that two of them were killed on the spot, the third one was killed in a hospital and the fourth was hit by a car.
