ISLAMABAD, May 29: The Ministry of Interior has requested the Supreme Court to take notice of “misbehaviour” of lawyers and “derogatory remarks” made against the government, departments and senior judges during a function in the Supreme Court premises also addressed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on May 26.
In a weekly briefing to reporters on the law and order situation in the country on Tuesday, ministry spokesman Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema observed that participants of the function had violated Supreme Court directives.
“We have sent a letter to the Supreme Court registrar requesting action against the violators,” he said.
Mr Cheema said the SC had allowed lawyers to use its auditorium on the condition that the occasion would not be used for any political speeches or character assassination. About law and order in the country, he said the situation in Balochistan was under control and the government had largely been able to crush terrorist elements there.
