KARACHI, May 29: An additional district and sessions judge, South, on Tuesday put off till Wednesday the pronouncement of his order which was reserved on Monday on an application filed by lawyers against the SHO of the City Courts police station.
The City Courts police, in compliance with an order of the additional district and sessions judge, South, Mohammad Azeem, had registered the FIR (53/07) on May 19 under sections 147,148,149,324,427,365/511 and 506-B of the PPC against the Sindh government and leaders of the MQM on May 19.
After registration the FIR, the SHO of the City Court police station had declared it null and void under Section 157-B of the Criminal Procedure Code, stating that the incidents mentioned in the FIR had not occurred in the jurisdiction of his police station and the investigation of the case was not necessary.
The complainant, KBA General-Secretary Naeem Qureshi, had sought legal action against the leaders of the MQM, police officials concerned and the government of Sindh. The FIR stated that lawyers in a procession were going to the Sindh High Court.
It was alleged that the lawyers were threatened to be burnt alive by sprinkling petrol on them. It was said that Sindh Bar Council member Noor Naz Agha was made hostage and furniture of the women lawyers’ common room was also set ablaze and many lawyers, including Shazia Mughal, Tabassum Naz, Syed Abass Ali and Aftab Ahmed Gilgiti, were injured.
