Abbas, Nasir make good progress

KARACHI, May 27: Promising Abbas Raza and Nasir Mushtaq surged ahead in juniors’ under-18 and men’s singles in the 11th Anti-Tobacco Day tennis tournament currently in progress at Karachi Club.

Abbas handed straight 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Basit Gabol in juniors’ singles and later got the better of Ahad Hasan Khan by the identical margin.

Junior international Nasir Mushtaq chalked up two victories in juniors singles. He accounted for Hasan Ali 6-1, 6-0 before inflicting a 6-0, 6-0 defeat on Mustafa Zaidi. His victim in men’s singles was Farhan Riaz who went down 3-6, 3-6.

Talha Saeed and Omer Shahid struggled to beat their opponents in three sets in juniors’ singles. The former beat Abdul Rehman 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 while the latter dropped second set in 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 triumph against Aamir Darvesh.

Boys’ U-14 singles: Zuhair Raza bt Shamoon 6-0, 6-0.

Juniors’ U-18 singles: Abbas Raza bt Basit Gabol 6-1, 6-1; Mustafa Zaidi bt Azher Qureshi 6-0, 6-4; Talha Saeed bt Abdul Rehman 6-3, 4-6, 7-6; Omer Shahid bt Aamir Darvesh 6-3, 4-6, 6-2; Nasir Mushtaq bt Hassan Ali 6-1, 6-0; Nameer Shamsi bt Waqas Abid 6-0, 6-0; Nasir Mushtaq bt Mustafa Zaidi 6-0, 6-0; Zakir Raza bt Talha Masood 6-1, 6-0.

Men’s singles: Abbas Raza bt Ahad Hasan Khan 6-1, 6-1; Nasir Mushtaq bt Farhan Riaz 6-3, 6-3; Ali Zubair Surmawala bt Kaleem Khan 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Juniors’ U-18 doubles: Talha Saeed/Abdul Rehman bt Ali Imran/Talha Masood 6-1, 6-1.
