KARACHI, May 27: The women wing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club to protest against Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan for his derogatory remarks against MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
The protesters held placards, banners, party flags and photographs of their leader Altaf Hussain. They raised slogans against Imran Khan demanding that the government unseat him from the national assembly. The participants also held posters of Sita White, the alleged mother of Mr Khan’s daughter, and shouted slogans against him.
Addressing the gathering, head of the MQM Coordination Committee Pakistan Anwar Alam said that processions and rallies across the city and in the interior of the province had reflected that the leader of the people was only Altaf Hussain and anyone using offensive remarks against him might be insane.
Other speakers said that protests and rallies of people warned the conspirators to abandon their plots against Altaf Hussain. The uncharitable remarks uttered by Imran Khan had hurt millions of people and he would have to tender an apology to the people for it.
Meanwhile, the MQM observed the 19th anniversary of the martyrs of the incident of Pakka Qila in Hyderabad. The main gathering was held at the party’s headquarters known as ‘nine zero’. Besides, many gatherings were held at different places across the province, including Hyderabad, to pay homage to the victims of the carnage.
AITEZAZ: The Haq Parast member of the Sindh Assembly have severely criticised Barrister Aitezaz Ahsan, who is a leader of the Pakistan People’s Party, accusing him of having become a tool of those who wanted the autocratic system to stay and keep the 98 per cent poor people of Pakistan in slavery.
In a statement issue here on Sunday, the legislators termed Mr Ahsan a ‘commodity’, alleging that his mentors had been punishing lower and middle class people of Karachi so that they could not raise their voice against the oppressive system imposed by imperialist forces and feudal lords.
Referring to the allegations levelled by Mr Ahsan and his fellows, they Muttahida legislators maintained that before resorting to blaming the MQM, they should tell people why people of Karachi had been subjected to intimidation right from the Ayub Khan era up to the first tenure of the PPP. “Who was responsible for the killings in Karachi and the economic murder of the people of Karachi?” they asked.
Meanwhile, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, a former deputy convener of the MQM’s Coordination Committee, said in a statement that Pakistanis were a respectable nation and “cannot accept Imran Khan, a playboy, as their leader.”
Mr Khan has been barred from entering Karachi for 30 days under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance following a bitter exchange of allegations between him and MQM leaders over the past few days.
Mr Siddiqui claimed that the Establishment and a religious group were patronising Imran Khan.
