RAWALPINDI, May 26: The Inter Services Public Relations has disputed comments made in a section of the press accusing officials of the armed forces of involvement in shady business activities and misusing plots of land acquired for defence purposes.

A spokesman said on Friday that the comments were `full of factual mistakes’ and an `amalgamation of allegations and distortions’.

The spokesman said land acquired for military operations were governed by a set of rules and regulations. “Land in use for operational purposes cannot be used for dairy farms or any other commercial activity nor can it be converted for private use,” the statement said.

Defending the performance of military-run organisations, the spokesman said these concerns were making a significant contribution to the economy.

The statement dismissed the press reports as `based on lack of knowledge and containing gross inaccuracires’.
