ALGIERS, May 26: Algeria will begin selling liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Brazil next year under the terms of a new contract signed here on Saturday, according to the north African country’s national energy company.

Algerian firm Sonatrach will deliver LNG to Brazilian company Petrobras through the use of offshore re-gasification terminals at Guanabara in the south of Brazil and Pecem in the north.

The two companies also signed an agreement covering the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons.

The agreements were signed by Sonatrach chief executive Mohamed Meziane and Petrobras head Jose Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo. Algeria’s energy minister, Chakib Khelil, attended the signing.—AFP
