Cartoonist’s house attacked

PESHAWAR, May 25: Prominent cartoonist Mohammad Zahoor has complained to police that some people tried to attack his house on Thursday night and fired on the watchman who tried to stop them.

The watchman returned fired and the assailants who were in a white car with smoky screen sped away.

Mr Zahoor, who has won four APNS awards for best cartoonist, said the armed men rang the doorbell of his home in Madina Colony on Charsadda Road at 2am but he didn’t open the door as it was too late.

The area’s watchman Imdad tried to stop them when they were driving back but they opened fire on him. The watchman was not hurt.

Mr Zahoor and Mr Imdad lodged a report with the Faqirabad police station. The cartoonist said he did not have enmity with anyone.

Office-bearers of the Khyber Union of Journalists and Peshawar Press Club president condemned the incident and demanded that the government should provide protection to Mr Zahoor and arrest the assailants.—Bureau
