NAB arrests medical college owner

LAHORE, May 25: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested Asif Bukhari, owner of Al-Huda Medical College, Peco Road, Lahore, on the charges of corruption.

According to a NAB press release, he established a medical college in 2001 which remained functional till 2005 without any approval or affiliation from the University of Health Sciences and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. He enrolled almost 300 students in the college and received heavy amounts on account of fee, hostel dues and miscellaneous dues.

Despite having the knowledge that he could not run a medical college without approval from the University of Health Sciences and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, he collected millions of rupees from the students.

In 2005, he closed the college and disappeared.

The NAB claimed that he committed an act of cheating as defined in Section 9 (a) of National Accountability Ordinance 1999.

Meanwhile, an accountability court remanded the accused in NAB custody on Friday for 15 days, the press release added.—APP
