KARACHI, May 25: Suspected land-grabbers killed a constable and injured another one in a shootout at Sohrab Goth, police said on Friday. According to the police, the manager of a construction company had on Thursday lodged a case against some people claiming that they had grabbed his company’s seven-acre plot some two kilometres from Al-Asif Square.
A team of investigation police visited the plot, surrounded by a 10-feet high boundary wall at around 12:30pm. The occupants of the plot opened fire at the police party killing constable Akhlaq Ahmed on the spot. Another constable, Tamachi Khan, sustained injuries in the attack.
The police party also returned fire and called out reinforcement. Extra police force with an armoured personnel carrier (APC) rushed to the spot and broke open the gate of the vicinity to enter the plot.
Police said six suspects were arrested from the scene during the operation and six TT pistols were recovered from their possession. However, about 20-25 other suspects fled the scene by scaling the boundary wall.
Those arrested were identified as Naik Mohammed, Mohammed Jan, Samiullah, Shahbaz, Izzatullah and Azam.The company’s manager had nominated three brothers — Dawood, Lal Khan and Mohammed Ali — as accused in the FIR.
BODIES FOUND: Bodies of two minor girls stuffed in a plastic bag were found at a desolate place in Surjani Town.
The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. One of the girls was two-year-old and the other was aged four, hospital sources said.
Surjani Town police said the residents of Sector 35-B informed the police about discovery of the bodies in the plastic bag at around 9am.
