Lawyers boycott courts across Sindh

HYDERABAD, May 24: Lawyers boycotted courts across Sindh on Thursday on the appeal of Pakistan Bar Council to condemn presidential reference filed against Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. They wore black armbands and staged token hunger strikes.

Lawyers boycotted lower and high courts in Hyderabad, and raised slogans against the government for filing reference against the CJP. They staged token hunger strike outside civil courts building.

SANGHAR: Members of district and taluka bar associations boycotted court proceedings. Lawyers also boycotted courts in Khipro, Shahdadpur and Tando Adam talukas.

President Khipro Bar Association, Mir Hassan Chanhio and others staged sit-in and observed token hunger strike. They vowed to continue their struggle till the supremacy of law and constitution.

DBA president, Anwar Mehmood Nizamani said the days of military dictators were numbered as the era was of civil society with no place for military juntas.

DADU: Lawyers of Dadu, Sehwan, Kotri, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Johi boycotted courts and observed token hunger strike outside judicial complex.

In Dadu, lawyers led by DBA president, Shafi Mohammad Memon advocate, took out a rally and demanded withdrawal of presidential references against the CJP.

NAWABSHAH: DBA members boycotted court proceedings and vowed to continue their struggle for the supremacy of judiciary in a meeting held at the bar room.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Lawyers in Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro and Bhirya boycotted courts. In Naushahro Feroze, lawyers led by DBA vice president, Abdul Salam Lohrani took out a rally from district court to local press club.

JACOBABAD: Lawyers of Jacobabad boycotted court proceedings and took out rally from bar association office. Delegation of political parties also met lawyers. Protesters raised slogans against the government and demanded withdrawal of presidential reference against the CJP.

LARKANA: Protesting against Karachi killings and the blocking of the chief justice’s entry into the city on May 12, the lawyers of Larkana boycotted proceedings of higher and lower courts and took out a procession from the district and session court to Sukarno Tower roundabout.
