LAHORE, May 24: Governor Khalid Maqbool has called for investment for expansion of Pakistan-Iran rail and road link to cope with the expected rise in movement of vehicles for laying the gas and 1,000 MW power transmission lines between the two countries.

He was talking to a five-member delegation of Iranian investors led by diesel commercial vehicle manufacturing company Khud Rau’s overseas marketing manager Masoud Vosough at the Governor’s House here on Thursday.

He said 150,000 vehicles were being manufactured in Pakistan at present for meeting the domestic requirements. The use was likely to increase in future. The government had set up a green fund and constituted a clean air commission for controlling the environment pollution due to increase in number of vehicles in the country.

The delegation told the governor that Khud Rau’s plant near Tabrez was the largest commercial vehicle manufacturing facility in the Middle East. It was manufacturing vehicles in collaboration with Mercedz Benz of Germany and introduced its buses, wagons, light and heavy-duty trucks in 20 countries in the Middle East. The company would introduce its commercial vehicles in Pakistan after conversion to CNG.

Iranian Consul General Saeed Kharasi told the governor that Khud Rau had built the underground railway in Tehran and was now building it in Mashhad.
