By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 24: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry will address a seminar on “Separation of powers and the independence of judiciary” organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) here on Saturday (May 26).

SCBA President Munir A. Malik has invited lawyers, scholars, writers and the diplomats to attend the seminar which will be held in the Supreme Court auditorium at 5pm.

Correspondent from Attock adds: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has said he would first address the Attock District Bar Association when he would start visiting the bars of the country.

The CJP stated this in response to an invitation extended to him by a five-member delegation of the Attock bar led by its president Rana Afsar Ali Khan in Islamabad on Thursday.

The delegation met the CJP after holding a three-hour token hunger strike outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The delegation comprised DBA president Rana Afsar Ali Khan, former member Punjab Bar Council Sheikh Ehsanuddin, Syed Azmat Bukhari, Waqar Azeem Saddiq and Sadaqat Ali Khan.

Sheikh Ehsanuddin later told Dawn that the CJP had thanked the lawyers for their support and solidarity with him during the ongoing judicial crisis. He said the CJP appreciated the legal fraternity of Attock district for extending their support to him.

The delegation assured the CJP that the lawyers of Attock would continue their struggle till his restoration and withdrawal of the reference against him.

Earlier, the delegation staged a token hunger strike outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan from 10.30am to 2pm. Renowned lawyers including Aitzaz Ahsan, Munir A. Malik, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Shafqat Abbasi visited the hunger strike camp.

Meanwhile, lawyers in the Attock district observed a complete strike in connection with their ongoing protest campaign on Thursday.
