US durable goods orders

WASHINGTON, May 24: Orders for US durable goods rose 0.6 per cent in April, after a revised 5.0 per cent jump in March, the Commerce Department said on Thursday, suggesting renewed strength in the factory sector.

The increase in orders for big-ticket manufactured goods, including cars, aircraft and washing machines was weaker than Wall Street analysts’ consensus forecast of a 0.9 per cent gain.It was the fifth increase in the last six months. The March rise of 5.0 per cent had been revised sharply higher from an initial 3.4 per cent increase and marked the strongest advance since September.—AFP
