Bomb hoax at MNC

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 23: A multinational company received a telephone call, here on Wednesday, claiming two bombs had been planted at its premises, police said. According to the police, a manager working at Schlumberger, Saleem Qurashi, received the telephone call around 12:30pm in his office, claiming that two bombs had been planted at its office premises.

The Industrial Area police rushed to the spot, along with the bomb disposal squad when informed and searched the entire office in addition to combing its surroundings, the parking and the green area, but, luckily, it turned out to be a hoax call.

During search, the police focused on exterior of the building because the office management said it had adopted a foolproof security system and had installed walkthrough gates at the entrance besides deploying 14 guards.

Work resumed after about 45 minutes when the police and the Bomb Disposal Squad said the area was clear.

Preliminary investigation suggested that a former employee, who had recently been terminated, might have made the hoax call to create panic in revenge, the police said. Efforts have begun to trace the caller, the police said.
