ATTOCK, May 21: Over 200 students will be trained in the telecommunication technology at the Polytechnic Institute Attock with the collaboration of Tevta to generate technical workforce and to develop talent for the growing telecom sector.

This was stated by Federal Minister for Production and Industries Jahangir Khan Tareen after launching a joint project of his ministry and Telenor Pakistan at the Government Polytechnic Institute Attock.

After completion of training, they would be offered jobs in the same sector, he claimed. In the second phase, the strength of students would be increased from 200 to 600, he said.

Malik Amin Aslam, Chief Executive Officer Telenor Pakistan Tore Johsen and Tevta Chairman Khalid Mahmood also spoke on the occasion. Later, the minister visited the Utility Store Corporation’s outlet in Attock.

The corporation’s managing director, Brig (retired) Abdul Hafiz, and other officials also accompanied him.

On the suggestion of Attock-1 Union Council Nazim Rana Shaukat Ali Khan, the minister directed the officials to immediately upgrade the USC outlets in Attock and shift it to the main bazaar area to facilitate the local people.

He assured the people that the government was committed to providing them standard essential commodities at cheap rates.

The minister said law and order situation and peace were essential for economical growth in Karachi and all efforts were being made by the government for this purpose.

Prisoner shifted to DHQ hospital: A diabetic under-trial prisoner was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Attock, on Monday morning, it has been learnt.

Deputy Medical Superinten-dent (DHQ) Hospital Dr Khalid Mehmood said the prisoner, Rowaiz Khan, was admitted to the medical ward of the hospital amid tight security, where his treatment had been started and his condition was stable.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General Prisons, Punjab, sought report from the authorities of the Attock district jail in this regard after reading a news item on Monday.

Earlier, Attock jail medical officer had declared his condition precarious and recommended that the prisoner be shifted to DHQ hospital for proper treatment on Saturday morning.

However, he could not be shifted to the DHQ hospital till Sunday night due to non-provision of police guard by the district police.
