Jirga session ends without agreement
PARACHINAR, May 21: The joint Pakistan-Afghanistan jirga, being held to defuse tensions along the border, could not reach a decision on Monday. Sources said jirga members discussed the border situation in the backdrop of last week’s clashes between the Afghan National Army and the Pakistani security forces over a dispute relating to a security outpost. Deliberations, however, ended without arriving at an agreement.
Twenty members each from the two sides participated in the talks, which started at 10am. They discussed issues like ceasefire and opening up of border routes for tribesmen living on both sides of the border.
They agreed to hold another session on Tuesday.
