KARACHI: Nazim wants work on Rs35bn uplift projects
KARACHI, May 21: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has expressed hope that the completion of over Rs35 billion development projects would bring much improvement in the life of citizens.
He directed the officers, staff and contractors of the city district government to strictly adhere to the policy of round-the-clock work on the development projects.
“First time in the history of Karachi, the city government has taken up the course of development in every town and union council at identical basis without any discrimination of cast, creed, community or language to provide basic necessities to 18 million citizens,” he said.
He was addressing a meeting held to review the pace of the work on his return from London here on Monday.
DCO Javed Hanif, Chief Controller Building Control Authority and Tameer-i-Karachi Programme Director Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, EDO W&S Amanullah Chachar and other EDOs of the city government attended the meeting.
The nazim said despite the fact that Karachi was the backbone of national economy which provided employment to a number of people from all parts of the country it was very unfortunate that hatred was being spread through discussions and comments in all the provinces.
He apprehended that this would give a feeling that people of Karachi were not considered as part of the nation.
He said that some elements were involved in such discussions to disturb the pace of development works initiated by the present city government.
“It is a dangerous trend which will neither benefit people of this city nor any other part of the country,” he said.
The nazim feared if the development process and peace efforts suffered it would not only affect those who had come here to earn their livelihood but also result in damaging the country’s economic growth, as the city contributed 68 per cent revenue to the national exchequer.
Under these circumstances, he said the responsibility of city government officials, employees and contractors grew further to ensure continuity of the ongoing development process initiated by the city government with day and night efforts.—PPI
