KARACHI, May 19: Sindh Local Government Minister Muhammad Hussain Khan has directed nazims of all local body institutions of the province to hold regular public meetings in their respective areas at least once a week to resolve grievances of the masses at their door steps.

In a letter written to nazims of local body institutions on Saturday, he said people approached him and complained about the problems which could be resolved at UC, town/taluka and district levels easily. He said this was because the masses were unable to contact their respective nazim personally, as most of them had no day fixed for public meetings.

Mr Hussain said the masses had a perception that their nazims were reluctant to face them, because they did not want to resolve their grievances. He asked nazims to prepare a weekly schedule of public meetings and inform inhabitants of their respective areas about the same regularly besides fixing a day in a week for meeting people at their offices.

He said the main purpose of present local bodies system was to provide all basic amenities of life to general public at their door steps. Mr Hussain asked nazim to forward him those problems which could be solved only at provincial level. He sought a copy of their weekly schedule.—PPI
