KARACHI: Uniformity in tax recovery stressed

KARACHI, May 19: District Coordination Officer Javed Hanif has stressed the need for having a uniform and coordinated system for recovery of various taxes of city government.

Addressing a briefing given to him by EDO Naila Wajid on Saturday, he asked the finance and planning department of the city government to ensure issuance of separate challans for recovery of taxes of each department and their deposit in the related bank account of the city government.

Mr Hanif called for collection of revenues of all the departments by the finance and planning group of offices and crediting the same into city government account through challan. Similarly, he said, all recoveries of schools and educational institutions under the city government should also be credited into city government account directly.

The DCO said that the departments concerned should be provided details about the funds allocated in the budget 2006-07 for development schemes. He said the receipt of funds by city government, given for development schemes including ADP, should be ensured and in this regard a liaison be maintained with the federal and provincial governments.

He also directed the officials concerned that a strategy be chalked out regarding charged parking, trade licence fee and other city government taxes. He said recovery of parking fee, wherever it was being charged, should be strictly monitored.

In the meeting, financial affairs concerning each department came under consideration.—APP
