CHITTAGONG, May 18: Frontline Indian seamer Munaf Patel has been ruled out of the ongoing two-Test series against Bangladesh due to back spasms, an Indian cricket board release said on Friday.

Patel, 23, suffered spasms in the lower back on Thursday evening and missed the first Test which started at the Ruhul Amin Stadium here on Friday.

The team management decided to send Patel home and Delhi rookie Ishant Sharma will join the touring squad in time for the second and final Test that begins in Dhaka on May 25.

Patel, who made his Test debut against England in March last year, has taken 25 wickets in seven matches so far.

It was still unclear whether he would be available for the tour of Ireland and England that begins in the last week of June. —AFP
