KARACHI: Candle light memorial

KARACHI, May 18: Sindh NGOs Network on HIV/Aids, a group of Pakistan National Aids Control Programme plans to organise a candle light memorial to express solidarity with the people living with HIV/ Aids at Koocha-i-Saqafat on Sunday.

The precedence for memorial was set at San Francisco and New York, on May 20, 1983. Since then the memorial takes place in more than 4,500 communities in more than 93 countries.

The International AIDS Candle Light Memorial has emerged to be the largest grassroots level event in the world. The aim of this memorial is to raise community awareness and reduce the stigma related to HIV/Aids. To mobilise the community and involve them in fight against the disease are also among its goals. The event will provide an opportunity to all concerned to reflect through skits or case study presentations their commitment to the cause.—APP
