Acquisition

NEW YORK, May 18: Microsoft moved on Friday to get a better foothold in the red-hot online advertising market with the purchase of aQuantive, a global digital marketing company, for $6 billion. The move aimed at countering Google, the leader in online advertising, came a day after British advertising giant WPP announced its takeover of another US digital marketer.

Microsoft, the world’s largest software maker, said it hopes the deal will enable it to expand its presence in the fast growing world of online advertising from which industry rivals such as Google and Yahoo are already mining rich revenues.—AFP
