Hewitt to team up with Roche

HAMBURG, May 17: Lleyton Hewitt has confirmed that he could be interested in teaming up with compatriot Tony Roche following the sudden break-up of the coach’s association with world number one Roger Federer.

Hewitt and his former coach Roger Rasheed went their separate ways in January, and speculation that the two Australians might get together began from the moment the Roche-Federer split emerged at the weekend.

The former world number one from Adelaide has been soldiering on without a coach for four months and although he does not see an appointment as imminent, Hewitt sounded enthusiastic about the longer term possibility of working with Roche.

“I don’t know – it’s amazing what you guys come up with,” Hewitt initially responded. But when he was asked if he would be interested in a coach of Roche's quality, his tenor changed.

“Absolutely. It’s something I’d look at,” Hewitt replied. “But I'm sure Roche has got a lot of things going through his mind at the moment though. So down the track I might look at it. Just play it by ear.”—AFP
