LONDON, May 17: Pakistan and India will lock horns in a special One-day International cricket match at the invitation of the Prince of Wales. The game will be played in Glasgow on July 3 and it is hoped it will raise more than £2.5 millions for various charities in the UK and Sub-continent.

The Prince proposed the Friendship Cup match to mark the 60th anniversary of India and Pakistan’s independence. It is being organised by the British Asian Trust and up to 5,000 tickets are on sale through an online ballot.

“This will be an amazing occasion as Pakistan and India have not met outside the World Cup or the ICC Champions Trophy in the UK. With such a large Indian and Pakistani-origin populations it will be a fantastic opportunity to play such a match in aid of such a wonderful cause,” said Lalit Modi, Vice-President of Indian cricket board.

“The game was His Royal Highness’s idea and we are pleased that together with Cricket Scotland we have been able to put this into our tour of the United Kingdom,” he added.

Roddy Smith, Chief Executive of Cricket Scotland, said hosting one of, if not the biggest games in world cricket would be hugely exciting.

India and Pakistan have one of the most intense rivalries in world cricket. The two sides last met in a two-match series in Abu Dhabi 13 months ago, which ended as a 1-1 tie.—Agencies
