FAISALABAD, May 17: Police on Thursday registered a case against Shumail Raj and her two male accomplices for kidnapping a girl and contracting a fraudulent marriage with her.

The case involving a `same-sex marriage’ was widely publicised in the media when the purported husband approached the Lahore High Court seeking the court’s protection against the pressure being allegedly exerted on the `couple’ by the family of the `bride’, Shazina Tariq.

The case took a surprising turn when the court ordered physical examination of the `husband’ which declared him a girl. The court then ordered police concerned to produce the `she-couple’ on May 27.

Following the court orders, Jhang Bazaar police have registered a case against Shumail Raj, Khalid Bhatti and Imran under sections 417/365-B/468/471/420, on the complaint of Shazina’s father Tariq Hussain.

The DIG has constituted a police team for the arrest of the accused. Raids are on for their arrests.
