Police refuse to register lawyers’ FIR

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, May 17: Police on Thursday made a delegation of lawyers to wait for two hours before receiving court orders for registration of FIR against DPO, TPO, SHO of A-section police station, a traffic sergeant and 50 other police personnel.

District Bar Association (DBA) President Ali Mohammad Dahiri had complained to judicial magistrate-I on May 12 that the police had stopped their rally at Qazi Ahmed Railway Phatak at 8am on May 12 when they were heading towards Karachi to welcome the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

He alleged that police subjected them to torture, snatched away their mobile phones, cash and keys of their vehicles and kept them in illegal detention before letting them go.

Secretary DBA Ziaul Hassan Lanjar told journalists that if police did not register their FIR they would file a contempt of court application and would also file a direct complaint against police.

He said that the DBA had called a meeting on Friday to decide future course of action.

Police had, however, not registered the FIR lodged till the filing of this report.
