HYDERABAD, May 17: Six new hospitals were under construction and two hospitals were being expanded at a cost of Rs110 million, said District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Wednesday.

During a visit to an under-construction Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Sehrish Nagar, Qasimabad, the nazim directed that instead of a BHU, a 20-bed hospital should be built to facilitate people.

The nazim also visited the under-construction 20-bed general and maternity hospital on the Hali Road and directed the contractor to step up pace of work to complete the hospital before schedule.

Mr Jamil expressed dissatisfaction at slow pace of work on the under-construction trauma centre near Hala Naka and directed the contractor to complete the centre in time by working round the clock.

The under-construction hospitals include a 20-bed hospital in Sehrish Nagar, a 20-bed hospital on Hali Road, a 20-bed hospital in Unit No. 8 of Latifabad, a 20-bed hospital in Paretabad, a 10-bed hospital in Liaquat Colony and a trauma centre near Hala Naka.

The district government, under its expansion programme of health units, would expand a women hospital to 130 beds and add a blood bank, a pathology laboratory, a pump room and a generator room to Bhittai hospital.
