Pakistan to play first match against Scotland: Twenty20 World Cup


LONDON, May 16: Pakistan will open their Twenty20 World Cup campaign in South Africa with the match against Scotland, according to the schedule announced here on Wednesday.

The inaugural tournament will kick off when hosts South Africa take on the West Indies in the opening game at the Wanderers, Johannesburg on Sept 11.

The Cricket South Africa (CAS) tasked with overseeing the Twenty20 World Cup confirmed the groups for the tournament which will see the 12 qualifying nations split into four groups of three; each venue will host a sum of nine games.

Once the group stage is completed the top two teams from each group will go through to the Super Eights, to start on Sept 16. The top four teams after the Super Eights will go through the semi-finals on Sept 22.

The final will be played at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on Sept 24. Warm-up matches of the global event are slated for Sept 8 and 9.
